Lord Mayor portrait

It was a such a privilege to paint the portrait of former Lord Mayor Ryan Murphy. The piece includes a few references connected to his background, including the Cave Hill skyline and the pillars from Tír na nÓg Park near his home in North Belfast.

It was unveiled last night at Belfast City Hall, where it will now hang. Huge thanks to Kim Mawhinney and Belfast City Council for their support, and to Ryan for his openness throughout the process. Really grateful to have been part of it.

Alana Barton

Alana is a figurative painter based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The paintings explore childhood, family relationships, and the speculative relationship between real and imaginary.

Mostly based on young people integrated with organic forms, the paintings are inspired by feelings of nostalgia and Renaissance paintings.

The artwork uses both figurative and abstract elements and explores movement and colour to convey surreal dream-like states and alternative realities.
