Mural project

Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland

Collaborating with artist Emic for Carrickfergus women’s group mural project we were given open brief. The mural took shape with a palette of earthy tones complemented by greens and pinks and the theme of women's strength and resilience.

Usually working inside a studio, painting a mural was a totally new experience for me, and I learned so much in the process. By working together, we were able to combine our approaches to produce a depiction of feminine strength. I hope we can work on similar projects in the future!

Alana Barton

Alana is a figurative painter based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The paintings explore childhood, family relationships, and the speculative relationship between real and imaginary.

Mostly based on young people integrated with organic forms, the paintings are inspired by feelings of nostalgia and Renaissance paintings.

The artwork uses both figurative and abstract elements and explores movement and colour to convey surreal dream-like states and alternative realities.
